T'Pau is a late 1980s pop group led by singer Carol Decker. They have had a string of Top 40 hits in the UK, and several hits in the United States and Europe. Decker still performs under the name T'Pau at solo shows and 1980s nostalgia concerts.
The band T'Pau formed in 1986 in Shropshire, taking their name from a Vulcan priestess by the same name in the Star Trek Original Series. Prior to deciding on this name, they were called Talking America on early demos sent to record and publishing companies.
In 2007, marking the 20th anniversary of T'Pau's initial success, Ron Rogers and Carol Decker released the new single, "Just Dream", exclusively as an internet download. In 2008, as part of the "Here and Now" 80s tour, Decker performed at her home town of Shrewsbury for the first time since the 1980s in front of a crowd of over 9,000.
The album was produced by Roy Thomas Baker. It spent one week at #1 in the UK Albums Chart and also spawned five hit singles - "Heart and Soul" (also a Top 5 in the US), the best-selling Number One hit "China in Your Hand" (re-recorded especially for single release), "Valentine," a live version of "Sex Talk" (previously released in its original form as "Intimate Strangers") and "I Will Be With You."
For its US release, Virgin renamed Bridge of Spies to simply T'Pau.
A further release, the title track "Bridge of Spies" was also released in the US and Germany.
The artwork for the release included the name "T'Pau" rearranged to form a face (similar to the Moai stone heads found on Easter Island). This practice was replicated with the titles of the bands follow up albums Rage & The Promise.
